FAQ
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a collaborative process, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. I provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we can explore what is bringing you to therapy, understand patterns that may be affecting your life and relationships, and work toward meaningful change.
My goal is not simply to help you feel better in the moment, but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
What is your approach to therapy?
I primarily practice psychodynamic and insight-oriented therapy, while drawing from EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and other approaches when they may be helpful.
I tailor therapy to each individual client and our shared goals. Sometimes therapy involves developing practical tools to manage anxiety or overwhelming emotions; at other times, it may involve looking more deeply at relationships, past experiences, and longstanding patterns.
What is psychodynamic therapy?
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on developing a deeper understanding of how your experiences, relationships, emotions, and patterns from the past may influence how you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others today.
Greater insight can help you recognize patterns that may no longer serve you and create new ways of responding to yourself, your relationships, and the challenges in your life.
Do you offer EMDR?
Yes. EMDR can be helpful for people who have experienced trauma or distressing experiences that continue to affect them in the present.
EMDR is not appropriate for everyone or at every point in therapy. When appropriate, we will first establish a sense of safety and stability and then determine together whether EMDR is a good fit for your goals.
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?
IFS is an approach that helps us understand the different "parts" of ourselves that can emerge in response to our experiences. Rather than judging or trying to eliminate these parts, we work toward understanding them with curiosity and compassion.
IFS can be particularly helpful for people who feel conflicted internally, are highly self-critical, or find themselves responding to situations in ways they don't fully understand.
Do you work with couples?
Yes. Couples therapy can provide a space to slow down recurring patterns of conflict and disconnection and develop a deeper understanding of each person's emotional needs.
I incorporate an emotionally focused approach to help couples understand the dynamics between them, improve communication, and build greater connection, security, and intimacy.
What kinds of concerns do you work with?
I work with adults experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem concerns, and longstanding patterns that may be interfering with relationships or quality of life.
If you are not sure whether therapy with me would be appropriate for what you are experiencing, I encourage you to reach out. We can discuss your concerns during a complimentary consultation.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly 50-minute sessions. The frequency of therapy can vary depending on your needs, goals, and circumstances, and we can revisit this together as treatment progresses.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. I offer secure telehealth psychotherapy for clients who are located in states where I am licensed to practice.
What are your fees?
My fee for individual psychotherapy is $200 per 50-minute session.
My fee for couples psychotherapy is $225 per 50-minute session.
If cost is a concern, please feel welcome to reach out. I offer a limited number of reduced-fee appointments based on availability.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and do not participate directly with insurance plans.
If your insurance plan provides out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of your therapy fee. I can provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company.
I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to understand your specific out-of-network benefits.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the process. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation so that we can briefly talk about what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for, and whether I may be able to help.
There is no obligation to begin therapy after the consultation. The goal is simply to see whether working together feels like the right fit.
How do I get started?
You can begin by scheduling a complimentary 15-minute consultation. During our conversation, we can discuss what you are hoping to address in therapy and answer any questions you may have.
If we decide that we are a good fit, we can then schedule your first full session.
